Growing Up

When did my little boy grow up so big and mature?  Here he is in my sister-in-law's wedding last weekend.  Seeing him in his little suit made this mama feel all nostalgic.  He's so handsome!

And speaking of growing up, how did Laura get to be old enough to marry?  When I met my husband, she was just a little girl, maybe 8 or 10 years old.  Now she is a grown woman with a life and a husband.

My hubby got to walk her down the aisle.  Now that gave me a lump in my throat, too.  I don't know if it was just missing his dad (whom I never got to meet) or visions of future aisle-walking, escorting our daughter to her future husband.  Well, he is pretty handsome, too.  It was a wonderful wedding.

Annika will be absent from this event in our photo album.  She got the chicken pox and had to stay with the other grandparents.  Oh well!  That's life, I guess.
Here she is in the dress she was going to wear, and getting her first real haircut in preparation for the big day that she couldn't enjoy.

A Visit to Grandma's

We drove down today to visit hubby's mom. We spent the afternoon with her and her husband, and had fun on their farm and the house where hubby grew up. We got to run around in the sun, visit with the chickens (much safer to Annika behind a large fence), play with the dogs, and see a brand new lamb. The lamb had just been born a few hours ago. Grandma was a bit surprised to have a lamb so early in the season.

We also got to see a grouse up close; the bird was sitting injured on the road near Grandma's, so she picked it up and brought it home to recover. She put it in with the chickens. It will be free to leave when it is healed, but have access to food, water, and shelter.

The main reason we went down was to pick up a new cat that needed a home. Emma will be joining our two other cats at our place. I don't have photos of her yet, but I'll try to take a few in the next day or so as she settles in more. Right now she is barricaded in the office with hubby so that she can get used to our place and our other cats can get used to her. Jaz is growling at her through the door, hissing and spitting. Hopefully they'll work it out and be able to coexist peacefully soon.

It was a good day, and a good family outing.

Thirty Days of Thanksgiving - Day Three

I had surgery three weeks ago on my foot and ankle, and have not been able to do very much around my house or for my children.  My parents and my husband have been taking over all the childcare and housework, and I have had friends who have helped me clean, brought me meals, walked Gabriel to and from school, and cheered me up.  So today, my entry in the 30 Days of Thanksgiving is for everyone who has helped us out over the past few weeks.  It has been difficult for me to sit here and watch everyone do all of "my" jobs, but I am so grateful for how much time and effort people have poured out on us because they love us.  So, thanks to everyone, from the bottom of my heart.
